What Are Digital X-Rays?

digital panorex machine makes dental x-raysDigital radiography is a form of x-ray imaging in which digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. Digital x-rays (digital radiography) is essentially filmless X-ray image capture. In place of X-ray film, a digital image capture device is used to record the X-ray image and make it available as a digital file that can be presented for interpretation and saved as part of the patient’s medical record.

Not only does digital radiography expose patients to less radiation, but it also offers immediate image preview and a wider dynamic range, which makes it more forgiving of over- and under-exposure. Besides exposing the patients to less radiation, digital x-rays are more environmentally sound because processing chemicals are not put into the water system. They also give clearer diagnostic images.
